Random: January, February & March 2016

The beginning of this year I transitioned from being a full time intern to a part time contributor at HK Magazine, obviously because the school semester had begun. My final semester of university - most probably ever, because this is my masters degree! I've been very busy these three months, which is why you've been seeing a lack of posts. I just haven't been out much because if I'm not at school, I'm at work. And if I'm neither, I'm trapped at home doing school work or work-work.

Photos include: Literally eating poop (they're tamarinds), trying out the unicorn slippers the N Girls got me for my 22nd birthday, a hardcore binge (I had more besides the wrappers pictured), my first expensive skin product, a perfectly heart-shaped cherry, Popin Cookin (Google it - it's not play dough, it's edible), meeting Angie Li for lunch, winning Liv Magazine and Coconut Matter's giveaway, using my Foodpanda $200 voucher (yes I do enter a lot of Facebook competitions as you guys know) and Easter!

Random Photos from the Rest of 2015

And the last post of 2015... posted in 2016... and not actually the last post about the year that's just ended because I still have my yearly nutshell post to write (read: 2014 and 2013)... okay I've gone off topic again, but here are the random photos I couldn't find a place to fit taken during the year! The first few are of MOI and MOI only, followed by food, and then just some basically random shit.

When Your iPhone Falls into the MTR Gap

I mean, what are the fucking chances, right?

I was on my way to meet Sarah for brunch in Admiralty, and I was on the MTR leaning on the wall next to one of the train doors. I remember exactly which compartment it was, because my OCD self always makes sure to stand in that spot: the very first compartment of section six, against the white wall and not the glass surface where there are seats. I hope I explained this well enough because I'm not gonna draw a diagram. Only my parents and Jason know why I always pick the very first compartment of each section - it's the warmest spot on the whole MTR, but that's for another post altogether.

Anyway, it was a crowded on the train at around 2PM on Saturday. We were at Wan Chai. Nearly there - just one more stop. Like everyone else, I was engrossed in my phone. The MTR doors opened and a bunch of people spilled out to get to their destinations. The compartment was empty for perhaps a millisecond before an equally large group of people filled the space. One of these people was a middle aged woman who was in conversation with her daughter.

The woman was talking with hand gestures. They weren't particularly big or anything. But just before the doors closed, her hand caught the side of my phone, and she basically knocked it out of my grip.

It was like a horror story. The whole damn crowd seemed to disperse as we all watched my iPhone drop in slow motion. It hit the floor, bounced once, bounced twice - and honestly, that was already bad.

But it didn't stop there. I screamed (yes, I actually screamed out loud - though it was more like a weak, raspy gasp) as it bounced closer and closer to the MTR gap between the train and the platform... and fell in.

It fucking fell in.

Time froze. Hell, everybody froze. I looked at the woman who had knocked my phone out of my hands in shock, and she stared back at me with a matching expression.

"Run - run to the MTR concierge and tell them what happened - now!" People started saying to me.

I didn't even think twice about pulling the woman with me. It wasn't exactly her fault - or was I being too nice? Either way, I was in full on panic-mode and didn't have time to get all vengeful as I hopped out of the MTR and sprinted to tell the staff what had happened.

If you're curious, I collected my phone the next day (they fished it out after the last train stopped at midnight) and it still works. iPhone, you're incredible. But of course the screen is all shattered and I can't use it without putting it inside a ziplock bag because the jagged glass cuts real bad.

I don't even know what to file this under, so I'll just categorise it as "random". What the actual fuck.

Random: July, August & September 2015

This will be a short post, but here are the random photos that don't fit in anywhere for the past three months! I've actually begun the really good habit of deleting unnecessary photos on my iPhone, so I don't have much to upload. Sorry? Or am I not sorry because I'm finally feeling more organised? Well, here are the photos from:
  • Green Waffle Diner with Sarah
  • An exhibition in Pacific Place
  • A free dessert from our favourite waiter in Outback Steakhouse because the Kornhill branch which we frequent at least twice a week was closing (actually, I didn't manage to snap a picture of it, but it's quite memorable since I finished 3/4 of it so I'll reuse a really old photo I took two years ago)
  • Random Snapchats taken on my Dad's car

Me and My Facebook Competitions...

My friends all know that I am a major #cheapass and basically hella stingy with money, so it's no wonder that I join tons of Facebook and Instagram competitions. In the beginning, I was careful to only take part in ones that only required a like and a comment, and nothing that I had to post to my own profile. Over time, though, I got more ambitious and less shameful lol, so I even started entering competitions where I had to share the post publicly on my own profile. I know, embarrassing as fuuu, but hey, a cheapskate's gotta do what she's gotta do!

The last time I won something was from Tim Tam Hong Kong - a Tim Tam cushion and a huge box of the chocolates that fattened me up nicely. I've won a few small ones in between but nothing really worth mentioning, stuff like $50 cash coupons for Muji or whatever.

Then in August I entered Eslite Hong Kong's "Treasure in the Book" competition and won a $200 cash coupon! It was definitely the best gift I've won so far because I love reading (didn't expect that, did ya?) so I redeemed three books from it. Namely, "Gone Girl" and "Sharp Objects" by Gillian Flynn and "Examined Life: How We Lose and Find Ourselves" by Stephen Grosz. Can't wait to get started on them! :)

Random: April, May & June 2015

April, May and June were kind of boring - I was not looking forward to choosing which random pictures I would find on my iPhone to show you guys since I normally have a lot, but surprisingly, there were only a few! So here's everything - from work life to dates with Jason, all stuffed into one small "random" summary post.
