My 22nd Birthday: Dinner Buffet at Yamm, The Mira

Jason's sister works at The Mira, and I'd wanted to try their buffet since forever, so he super nicely arranged a dinner buffet on Sunday night for us! It's not cheap, let me tell you, but we knew someone so we had a discount.

Every time I think about the food I had, maaaan, I seriously salivate. I'm not a seafood person - I'd rather eat a steak - I just feel that seafood, apart from fish, is too much of a hassle to eat. I mean, remove the shells? By the time you're done cracking open that crab, all the other plates have been cleared by your peers, and honestly, the meat you get isn't as meaty as a piece of steak, if you get what I mean. I suppose I'm a bit of a carnivore though, lol. But I've digressed again, the point I wanted to make is that even a non-seafood eater like me loved the lobsters - they were juicy and best of all, they've already separated the meat from the shell for you.

Jason was really shocked at how much I ate that night. Actually I shocked myself. I always knew I was a binge-eater at buffets but I think I broke my record that night. I also really recommend The Mira's macarons. I had more than ten macarons that night, I think I had sixteen? Yeah, I couldn't stop. I'm more of a dessert person at buffets and I'm not joking when I say that I swept the dessert table. I even ate half of my birthday cake. I was still eating when the big men at the next table had stopped...

Oops, I made this post about the food again. What's new? (It's obviously about the looooove)

Father-Daughter Time

On the day before my actual birthday, I had to go see the doctor in Tsim Sha Tsui and my Dad went with me. Since the appointment was in the morning, we would normally go back to Hong Kong island afterwards but I had a birthday dinner buffet in Tsim Sha Tsui in the evening. It would be a waste of $$$ to cross the harbour several times so I had to force Dad to stay with me... well, as much as he didn't want to (gosh, there are fathers all over the world who'd kill to spend time with their daughters, and mine just wants to go home and vacuum the floor), I won. So, Dad had to trail around the dark side with me all afternoon.

We had a quick lunch at agnès b. café L.P.G. and I ordered a salad (what's new?) to save my stomach to binge later on... unexpectedly though, the salad was huge. Dad had a lasagne and his was disappointingly small.

My 22nd Birthday: Dinner with the Parents

My parents were going to be on vacation in Japan on my actual birthday (again! I swear this is the fourth year in a row!), so we decided to 'celebrate' early. I quote the word 'celebrate' because we just had dinner outside and a cupcake when we got home. It was a weekday too because everything was quite rushed so I had to hurry to Admiralty after work, but it gave me something to look forward to all day. I got to choose where we ate and I chose Dan Ryan's Chicago Grill - it wasn't my first time there but I suddenly felt like it!

My 22nd Birthday: Jaspas & Portobello

Only two days after returning from Thailand, I met up with "The Slow Ones" a.k.a. Jacklyn, Sarah and Zoe for dinner. Supposedly, we were supposed to celebrate my birthday but it turned out to be a more casual meet up - which was totally fine with me! The 6th of April was actually Easter Monday, and since we were all working, we took advantage of the extra public holiday. There's really nothing new about our dinner date to report - we just went to Jaspas for our main course then went to Portobello for cake!

Bangkok & Hua Hin: Part 7

Since nothing really exciting happened during our last two days in Thailand, I'm just going to group days seven and eight together in one blog post. Basically, we just spent the rest of our time in Bangkok shopping, buying souvenirs a.k.a. more snacks in the Big C supermarket, buying street food (including the famous salt grilled fish!) and eating it back in the hotel, looking for Teddy House... and then it was bye bye to the land of smiles and back to Hong Kong!

Bangkok & Hua Hin: Part 6

Part 6 for day six! Nearly a week after our initial arrival in Thailand, the highlights of the sixth day were shopping around Platinum Mall in the morning, camwhoring in Chocolate Ville in the afternoon (luckily we didn't get scammed on our taxi ride - though the drivers definitely tried to!) and shopping at the street market stalls with my Mum after dinner - my Dad had promptly returned to the hotel.

Honestly, a word about Platinum Mall: everyone raves on about how cheap the shopping is, but I didn't find it that great. The clothing styles were old, out-of-date and weren't even cheap at all! Maybe for people living in the west like the US or the UK the offerings were bargains, but honestly, I could find much better stuff back in Hong Kong in Mongkok... fashion-wise, quality-wise and price-wise too.

But anyway, all the photos apart from four are taken in Chocolate Ville - which is the place in Bangkok you need to go if you're a camwhore. It is every spoilt princess' dream, haha. I guess it's worth the taxi money you'll definitely get scammed out of - and I say definitely because once you get there, there's basically no way out and the workers of Chocolate Ville even work with the taxi drivers. Hey, it's a dog eat dog world out there!
