Christmas Eve Lunch Buffet at the Renaissance Harbour View Hotel

Following our annual Christmas Eve hotel buffet ritual (click here for last year's lunch buffet!), I decided on 2014's gluttony round-up to take place at the Renaissance Harbour View Hotel! My parents wanted to eat at the JW Marriott or Island Shangri-la again and I refused profoundly - if we're going to pay for such an expensive meal, and with it being a yearly thing, why not try something new? Obviously, it couldn't be too expensive (like The Peninsula), but I didn't want the buffet to suck balls as well. After weeks of research on Openrice and various blogs, I settled on the lunch buffet at the Renaissance Harbour View Hotel because it seemed to offer a wide variety of good quality food choices... and I think we were entitled to some sort of discount, ha ha.

The dessert was heaven, and they had unlimited made-to-order molten chocolate lava cakes! That was definitely the highlight of the whole buffet for me. I am a dessert glutton, and what's better than hot, creamy rich chocolate on a cold winter's day? Plus you could basically put any toppings you want - fruits, sprinkles, more chocolate, ice cream... I had four lava cakes in total after my main dishes and other dessert dishes. What. The. Fuck.

Studio Reunion at Barbecue

The long-awaited studio group dinner had been talked about for ages by my tutor but we never got around to it even after a whole year - and finally, half a year after graduation, we had a reunion at Barbecue in Tai Hang. Our tutor also invited his current students but only a small number of them came, but I'd say that the dinner was mainly catered to our year group anyway. It was so nice to catch up with a few ex-classmates who I hadn't seen in a while since we all work in different places now! I actually really liked my studio group, I felt like we helped each other rather than compete with each other, which was nice. All of us had chill personalities as well - unlike some individuals in other groups, so our year went by with minimum pressure (minimum pressure for an Architecture degree, ha ha, which is still very much pressurised...).

Meet Up with Jeremy 5

It's always nice to catch up with Jeremy! The last time I met him was back in summer. This was the third and probably final time I'll catch up with him this year, since 2014 is drawing to an end. It's funny how our meet ups are so spaced out, but it seems like in every single one, I'm going through a different chapter of my life! During our meet up at the beginning of 2014, I was still anxious about my upcoming Architecture finals; in summer, my university life had ended but I was anxious about finding a job... and now? Hopefully everything's stable!

Joint-Firm Year-Out BBQ at Maisie's!

A common topic that has been circulating amongst my group of Architecture friends is how closed off we are socially. The thing is, Architecture is a rather narrow field and we'll basically meet the same people again and again as we climb up the career ladder. So in an effort to meet more people, we decided to have a Joint-Firm Year-Out BBQ Party at Maisie's!

The BBQ took place the evening after my SNAP Hong Kong photoshoot with the N's Girls. It was late afternoon by the time we were done with our session, so we quickly made our way back to Saikung. Our first stop was the market to get fresh ingredients for the night, including ingredients for the appetizers and desserts asides from you know, your average meat. Then we got to work preparing the food and setting after getting back to Maisie's!

The night was a big success - but it was hella cold and I seriously froze. I had to borrow poor Plato's jacket for pretty much the whole night and stand next to the warm barbecue grill. Just wish winter would hurry up and leave (though it's barely begun, ha ha) to make way for spring and summer.

HKU Architecture Graduation 2014: Photoshoot at SNAP Hong Kong!

Graduation Series:
Part 1  |  Part 2  |  Part 3  |  Part 4  |  Part 5

The N-Girls and I decided that we should make our photoshoots at SNAP Hong Kong a yearly ritual just to see how much we change every year. This was only the "second year" actually, but I really hope that we continue this tradition even though I know it might be difficult with the possibility of everyone flying off to different countries for their postgraduate studies. But I guess that's life? :(

It was really hard to get everybody to agree on a date to meet up! Firstly, we had to choose an available time from the photoshoot centre itself, then we had to accommodate five people's busy schedules. And trust me, with the girls and their sociable lives (the anti-social me is not included in this description of course, ha ha), we changed the appointment time quite a bit before we finally settled down.
