Reunion after Eight Years!

Finally met up with Nadia after eight years! Yes, you heard right - eight freakin' years! About time! Okay our back story: She came to Hong Kong from Atlanta and was in my class in Year 6, and we bonded right away and became best friends. We ended up in the same class in Year 7 and Year 8, and we would've continued to be uber close if the silly girl hadn't left back to the US - and what's more, once she left, she never visited!

Our dinner that night was like a mini-reunion actually, because Tiffany and Helen came as well. Tiffany, I'd only seen once (twice if you count that time I bumped into her in H&M) since graduation, and Helen, who I hadn't seen at all since Year 13! We ate at Applegreen in Tsim Sha Tsui and talked and laughed nonstop. :) It was so nice to catch up with everyone!

Hong Kong Book Fair 2014

One crowded Saturday night, Clar and I braved the humongous throng of people and went to the Hong Kong Book Fair. This is our third year going together actually! Seems like it's our annual date now. :) I knew going on a weekday would've been easier because there would be less people, but she had to work and it would've seemed weird if I went with anyone other than her. Honestly can't imagine going with anyone else because we have such compatible tastes in books - we're both from international schools, so we can skip all the Chinese books, and we're both architecture students, so we can look at design books together. And our tastes in novels are similar too! With slight differences, of course, but that's what makes us such a good match for this annual fair, haha!

Didn't buy much this year because a) I haven't even finished the books I bought last year at the fair (thanks to a super busy final school year) and b) I've been buying books throughout the year anyway.

My purchases this year:

  • Yours, Faithfully - Sheila O'Flanagan ($25)
It was dirt cheap at $25 for four books and even though this book was never on my radar, I quite like Sheila O'Flanagan's novels so I thought, why not?

  • The Secrets of Happy Families - Bruce Feiller ($48)
I've been loving self-help books lately! Been reading The Happiness Project by Gretchen Rubin and although it's not the most well-written book, I find that it really inspires me to live better. And family is something I'm really concerned about haha, even though I'm only 21, so I knew I had to get this book!

  • The Lovely Bones - Alice Sebold ($50)
I keep hearing this book's title, probably because it was made into a movie, but I was never interested in it until I read the blurb at the book fair. And it sounded interesting, so I'll give it a try!

  • The Cuckoo's Calling - Robert Galbraith / J.K. Rowling ($60)
Wow, I honestly did not know J.K. Rowling wrote this book until I googled it just now? I know she wrote a few books under a pseudonym, but I didn't know it was The Cuckoo's Calling... so 100% being honest here, I picked this book up because the blurb sounded really good!

  • Committed - Elizabeth Gilbert ($25)
Dirt cheap again at $25 for four books - I read Eat, Pray, Love and really liked it, so hopefully I'll like Committed too! I also saw this book selling at $48, but this one was so much cheaper! (I guess reason being that it's been published for a long time and looks really battered, haha)

  • Princess Diaries 10 - Meg Cabot ($25)
I used to love the Princess Diaries series! I've actually got the whole set in ebook version except the last book... so when I saw this on sale (again, $25 for four), I knew I had to get it!

  • The Mystery of Mercy Close - Marian Keyes ($67.20)
Again, I actually have this book in ebook version that I (illegally) downloaded online but y'know, ebooks... they're just not the same as real books, and I never have motivation to read on computer screens. This is one book I have to read though because I love Marian Keye's series on the Walsh sisters, and this is the last book on the youngest and my favourite sister, Helen!

Oh, and I forgot to mention we also had dinner before we started book-hunting! But anyway, here are two selfcams taken shamelessly on the MTR with my darling Clar after the fair to round off this post.

Macau Day Trip ☼

Since we cancelled our trip to Phuket last minute (luckily we could get full refund because it was still red alert there), we made plans to stay in Macau for a weekend... but that failed too. Hence, our group name: What Grad Trip? Haha so if you were looking for an explanation of that, then here it is. Anyway, since staying overnight was out of the question due to everyone's busy work schedules / Janet's travelling schedule (she only had one week in Hong Kong), we decided on a day trip! Luckily that succeeded, so off we went to Macau on a Saturday morning! :)

We did the typical touristy things: we had a lunch buffet (with the yummiest coconut tart omg) at the Clube Militar de Macau which Janet somehow found online, explored Old Taipa Village whilst eating street food, visited your typical destinations like the Senado Square and Ruínas de São Paulo, then took the City of Dreams shuttle bus to The Venetian where we shopped and had dinner at this very unauthentic Macanese restaurant called Madeira Portuguese Restaurant. One day was not enough for full exploration of the place!
