So My Mum's New Hobby Is Baking...

I've actually forgotten how long it has been since my Mum began baking. Two years? Three years? She began taking lessons in bread and cake making and still does, but she bakes a lot in her own time too so we're never out of pastries at home. In fact, we constantly have a surplus of baked goods and we find it difficult to finish everything, especially since we only have three people living in our immediate household. My Mum gets really upset if the food is good but goes to waste, so she tries to give her creations away to family and friends as much as possible. Let me know if you ever want to taste her baking, she'd be glad to share (and super happy to have the opportunity to bake more)!

Note: I'm only posting the aesthetically pleasing photos here - Mum actually made a lot more bread and cakes, but since I only obtain these photos through her Whatsapp messages, the "nicer" pictures (well, in my opinion anyway) are somewhat limited by her photography skills. Ha ha, sorry, but it's the truth and you guys know I'm anal (pardon me) about these things!

Clockenflap 2015

When I started my Architecture degree, I found out about Clockenflap, an annual music festival in Hong Kong. I didn't go in my first year... my second year... my third year... my year-out... I remember how I thought that I could finally go last year since I was working and not swamped by design final anymore. But I ended up not going, because I had driving lessons and Nutrition class and everything... I only went to their Miniflap preview event in PMQ.

This year, I'd planned to finally go. I even arranged all the dates with Clar and got my student ticket early. But a few nights before the event, she told me she wasn't free. And mind you, the tickets weren't fucking cheap. Jason was nice enough to offer to go with me, but I had to go through the whole process of contacting random people to buy last-minute tickets off them for a fair price. I did it though, and in the end we had a great outdoors date filled with activities, music and food!

Remember Tanya?

I'm not sure if I've ever mentioned Tanya in any of my blog posts regarding my final year of Architecture, but I worked with her and Henry during the first semester of our third year. We got closer then, and she is a super funny and nice person! I like her a lot. :) Anyway, she went to live in Canada after graduating and she was back for a short while to Hong Kong, so we decided to meet up alongside with Clar. Since Clar works at HKU and I study there, we ate at High Street Grill which is within walkable distance from the university. I felt so honoured to be one of the few people Tanya decided to catch up with during her short break in the city!

A Healthy Reunion

I went to Locofama pretty recently once with Clar and once with Honey. Before then I'd only been there in 2014 for Whitney's birthday. Background information aside, the Sugar Hong Kong app still had an offer for the kale salad there, so for my reunion with Tiffany and Jacklyn which had to be close to school cos Jacklyn works there (and I study there), I suggested Locofama. The girls complained to me about the healthy food - they wanted more filling stuff! Haha, I thought everyone was into healthy eating nowadays, but I guess I was wrong - and I'm grateful for that because eating healthily gets boring after a while. Had a nice time catching up with Tiffany, who actually moved to England. It was such a nice tiny reunion!

The Foreign Correspondents’ Club

Visited the Foreign Correspondents’ Club for the second time in my life during Photojournalism class! I actually typed "first" time just now but I remembered that I had been there briefly once before, not long ago actually. I haven't talked about it on my blog yet, but I'm going to be interning for HK Magazine during my winter semester break, and I had an interview a week or so back with the senior editor there. Nevertheless, it was my first official visit to the FCC today, where we got to explore the place with our teacher, Kees. Would love to become a member one day but I'll definitely need some $$$, haha!

Healthy Chicken

Healthy Chicken is actually the name of the eatery, not the actual food healthy chicken. I discovered it a long, long time ago but never had the motivation to go all the way to Central to buy it, even though I knew what they sold would be perfect for me. A huge portion of chicken breast and salad meal? Yes please! Just a note, they don't only sell chicken breasts (which is what I only like), they also sell a quarter, half or whole chicken, a huge piece of chicken leg, chicken wings... yum yum yum! What actually made me go get it one day in August was their Facebook competition - which I didn't win. But I went back a few times since then, once with Roy and once with Pinky, both of whom have been influenced by my salad-and-chicken eating habits throughout our Year-out jobs. ;)

My First Law Court Visit

For Media Law class, a few of us chose to work individually for our projects instead of in groups. The task was different if you wanted to work by yourself, and one option for us was to sit through a few public court cases then write a few articles on them. Decided to check out a rape case with Honey, Michelle and John one day because it sounded quite interesting. Y'know, not like your usual boring finance and law stuff which would probably put me to sleep. It was my first time at Hong Kong's High Court and I was actually quite excited despite the early morning start!

We went to both the morning and afternoon sessions, and in between the girls and I went to eat lunch at Mano in Central, a café that Honey and I had both wanted to try for a while. I loved their pick-yourself salad bowl because I could choose whatever I wanted in whatever amount for a fixed price! Of course, it was a one time visit to the salad bar only, but I think I pretty much aced it with my copious amount of my favourite chicken breast. It was a huge struggle trying not to ignore the vegetables and just get a whole plate of chicken. ;)

The court room was freezing, so before we went back for the afternoon session I actually dropped by Topshop and bought a $1000+ winter jacket. It was thick as hell with a fur lining and a hood, but with the scarily low temperatures of High Court, I decided to do my best to prevent myself from turning into ice. I felt so bad and the jacket was actually quite nice, but $1000 - with student discount - was really too much for a jacket in my opinion, so right after the court case wrapped up for the day I actually went back to Topshop to refund it. Haha, I'm so sorry, but you saved my life Topshop!
