Lai Yuen Fail

The original Lai Yuen Amusement Park opened in 1949 and closed in 1997. It was the largest amusement park of its time and an icon of old Hong Kong. I don't remember it at all because it was more for my grandparents' and parents' generation, but my Mum told me that I'd actually gone when I was just a kid!

Since I left my full time job at the end of June, I found myself hanging out with my Mum more and more on weekdays... okay maybe it's only because I have no other friends shut up lol. But anyway, to celebrate its 66th anniversary, a rendition of Lai Yuen returned to Hong Kong from the end of June until September! Entry was free, so after having lunch in Admiralty, Mum and I decided to check out the park.

Unfortunately, as the title of this blog post suggests, it was a big fat failure. The previous day was a typhoon day, and it was closed for the afternoon. Erm, so we just took a picture at the entrance and called it a day. Luckily at Central Pier No. 8, Hong Kong Maritime Museum just happened to have a special exhibition called Made in Hong Kong: Our City, Our Stories, so we checked that out instead. The view of the harbour from the exhibition hall was really nice too!
