Master of Journalism?

So... this is kind of hard for me to write because well... who really decides to leave their stable, high paying and highly respected career path for something that is the complete opposite in today's society? Who really decides to flip a middle finger at four years of their life for something that they know has a high probability of not working out?

Okay, so I know a lot of people actually quit their high profile jobs to pursue their passion. But I always feel like those people have already earned and saved a decent amount of money that they don't need any more, so they can actually spend the extras on whatever they like, like y'know, opening a café or something.

Me? I'm so young. I'm freakin' 21. Obviously I do not have enough money, not for a secure future at least, even if I take into account my salary from this year's job. Honestly, half of my total salary is used up already from paying for this new thing... and it's not like I don't spend money on myself monthly too (though my close friends all know I'm a stingy bitch and I don't actually splurge ever, ha ha)!

It was such a difficult decision but I've decided. And though I'm going to keep quiet about this to the public until the time comes, I'm comfortable writing about it on this blog because as far as I know, no one who knows me in real life reads it. ;)

I've decided to do a one year master's degree in journalism at the University of Hong Kong.

Family Stanley Day

As one of our belated new year's resolutions, my parents and I decided to dedicate one day a month to have a "Family Outdoors Day" where we go somewhere somehow nature-related for at least the afternoon. Reason being... we may look like a normal family on the outside, but actually we are really dysfunctional. My parents hate celebrating in general - that goes for every single special occasion, including birthdays, anniversaries, milestones like graduation, Christmas, new years... you name it. In fact, we've only just started celebrating my parent's birthdays because I began to insist on it. And we've only just started going out for dinner more often because I began to insist on it. If I never opened my mouth, my parents would be content living the rest of their lives shelled up at home.

So you can imagine. If my parents hate the idea of even stepping outside into the city, they definitely would not step into nature. And surprisingly, it was my Mum who brought up the idea of these monthly family days. Maybe she was temporarily abducted by aliens?

For our first trip, we took it easy and chose Stanley as our destination - a outdoorsy sort of town. My Mum invited my Grandma and Uncle along and off we went. We visited all the typical places - the Stanley Market, Stanley Main Street, the waterfront promenade, Murray House, Stanley Plaza and Blake Pier. In the evening, we had dinner at Chez Patrick Deli because we needed to choose a restaurant in Stanley Plaza for the free parking - ha ha.

Long-Awaited Reunion at IPC Foodlab

I don't even know how long it'd been since I last saw Jungbin. I think it was September 2011, when we just started university. Despite us both studying in Hong Kong for our degrees (she went to HKUST) and keeping in contact through Facebook with frequent mentions of meeting up... well, we never did. And now that we've both graduated and are working full-time jobs, we finally took action and set a date.

Initially, we wanted high tea at Le Salon De Thé de Joël Robuchon but since it was tea, it was set to start at 3PM. So we went the healthy route and had lunch at IPC Foodlab on Caine Road instead - somewhere I'd wanted to try for ages, like before the Caine Road branch was even built and it was only in Fanling. And it was so disappointing. The pasta that Sarah had was okay though, and the portion size was worth its size, but the salad that Jungbin and I ordered was tasteless and tiny. For an eatery that specialises in organic food and salads... whatttt?

Well, it's the company that matters anyway!

Lesbian Lovers at Aberdeen Street

Haha, don't you just love the title of this blog post? I know I do ;) If you don't know what it means, and I'm not sure if I've explained it before on my previous posts, but the basic gist of it is that Clar and I are (not-so-secretly) lesbian lovers... despite us both having long-term boyfriends LOL. It's because we're such good friends, and whenever we hang out one-on-one - or even when we're in a group actually - we just really look like a couple. There's no other way of explaining it. We just really match, and you can even see it in photos. Maybe it's our height? Our clothing styles? Our appearances? That... overall vibe? All I know is that everyone agrees and the public eyes us wearily when we're hanging out and we really don't mind. :P

Anyway, we decided to meet up because we hadn't seen each other for quite a while since Clar went to Cambodia for volunteer work. We went to Aberdeen Street in... well, Aberdeen Street of Central/Soho/Poho for their brunch and giant salads. Prices were over $100 so it isn't a cheap place but well, the food was good I suppose and my salad was honestly giant! Afterwards, we dropped by PMQ then stumbled into Mr Simms Olde Sweet Shoppe, a newish confectionery store that specialises in importing candies and chocolates from the UK. It was heaven LOL I couldn't resist buying a chocolate covered nougat...

New Years Family Sunday

Managed to squeeze some family time into my schedule during the first Sunday of 2015. And when I say squeeze, I really mean squeeze, because I had a driving lesson just before lunch and an appointment right afterwards. Though everything took place in Causeway Bay, it really was a rushed schedule. I had a quick meal with my parents at Wired Café in Hysan Place before rushing off to my appointment, then met up with them again about half an hour later. It was slightly warmer that day which was nice as well!
