My 23rd Birthday: Dinner Buffet at Café Too, Island Shangri-la

After an afternoon at Café Hillywood, Jason and I went shopping in Cotton On (I spent $400 in just half an hour - oops!) then suddenly it was time for my birthday dinner buffet at Café Too at the Island Shangri-la. The decision to celebrate with a buffet, as we did last year for my 22nd birthday, was super last minute. Yep, Jason booked the dinner less than 24 hours before we actually went, haha. I didn't really have a preference for my birthday celebration and honestly I would've been fine with a simple dinner - but hey, since he suggested a buffet, why the hell not?

This was actually my third time having Island Shangri-la's buffet, surprisingly! Though it was my first time trying their dinner offers. My first experience there was for its Christmas Eve lunch buffet in 2013, which was bombass. The second was to celebrate surviving my Architecture degree half a year later, again for their lunch buffet. I honestly think Café Too has the biggest range of choices. They did not disappoint this time too. Much, much better than The Excelsior's buffet (which was probably the worst I've had)!

Bao Buffet at Café on the 1st, The Excelsior Hong Kong

What a huge number of buffets I've been having recently! My God... feast after feast... no wonder I'm gaining so much weight. One minute it's Christmas, then it's New Years, then it's Chinese New Year... sigh. In fact, the last time I went to a buffet was at Palette in Hotel sáv with my Bao family too! (And the meal RIGHT before that? Christmas Day dinner buffet at Mr. Steak Buffet à la minute.)

After work today, it was Tony's bao rice at Café on the 1st in The Excelsior! Seriously felt like heaven to feast nonstop after a full day's work. Had so much food, but I must say, it was pretty much the worst hotel buffet I've ever had. They even stopped refilling the dishes halfway. Not what I would expect from a high class hotel. You need to up your game, Excelsior. Would not go back at all.

Bao Buffet at Palette, Hotel sáv

The very next day - heck, very next meal - after my Christmas Day dinner buffet with Jason and two days after my family Christmas Eve dinner feast, I had yet another buffet today at lunch. This time, it was Twiggy and Hoho's joint post-bao rice. I'm going to be working at Hotel sáv on Monday and a long, long time ago, even before I got the task to work at the hotel, I'd wanted to try their buffet out - and it wasn't expensive! So I made a suggestion to go to Palette and the others agreed. The food was really good in my opinion and I love the decor of the hotel. Well, what can you say, it's an art hotel after all! As usual, pictured isn't all of what I ate... so guilty. :(

Christmas Day Dinner Buffet at Mr. Steak Buffet à la minute

Jason was nice enough to keep my Christmas buffet dreams alive (wow, that's a dramatic way to put it) since I couldn't have a Christmas Eve lunch buffet with my family like I do every year. Well, it was slightly hardcore to have to have so many feasts in a row (I already had a Christmas Eve feast last night and I'm having a buffet lunch tomorrow on Boxing Day as well wtf) but my hunger is never-ending anyway so that doesn't matter. We saw a good deal at Mr. Steak Buffet à la minute, which I went to for my parents' birthday this year, and I usually don't like to go to the same buffet places twice but the cheapass in me told me it was okay to try again this one time!

Sadly, I think the food quality was worse tonight. My Mum had also gone back once with my Grandma after her birthday in September, and she'd said the same thing. Nevertheless, it was a nice evening with Jason. I got him Boomf marshmallows and a super expensive Bellroy Wallet and he got me... omg he got me a freakin' Nintendo 3DS with Pokemon Alpha Sapphire! Dreams come true fosho'.

Parents' Birthdays Lunch Buffet at Mr. Steak Buffet à la minute

As y'all might know if you've been reading my blog for a while, my Mum's birthday is one week after my Dad's (and as a side note, my boyfriend's is one day after my Dad's). I decided to kill one bird with two stones by booking a lunch buffet at Mr. Steak Buffet à la minute in World Trade Centre, Causeway Bay! It was basically my first time going to a buffet place that wasn't part of a hotel, but the ratings were good and the price for a weekday lunch wasn't too bad, so I decided to try it out. Honestly, the food was delicious! I had like three or four chocolate molten lava cakes and even more brownies...

Afterwards, I got my brows done for the first time at SOGO's branch of Benefit Cosmetics with their Benebrows brow bar #wowbrows thing. I can't even remember what it's called, lol. It turned out a bit thicker and fuller than what I'm used to, but nice nonetheless! Perhaps it can be my new, bolder look haha.

Weekday Lunch Buffet at The Luxe Seafood Bar & Resto

Mum and I have been going to Tsim Sha Tsui quite frequently this summer for my mole removal surgery (yes, finally getting rid of that stupid thing above my upper lip which resembles a booger in photos), so since we had to spend extra transport money to cross the harbour to the Kowloon side anyway, we started checking out restaurants in the area. One day, we stumbled across The Luxe Seafood Bar & Resto in iSquare. The restaurant offers lunch and dinner buffets for a hella cheap price. I think it was like, $108HKD for a weekday lunch buffet? And you know our family, we love our buffets, so Mum and I did not hesitate to try it out. Obviously for the price the food quality wasn't great, but you pay for what you get, and it wasn't bad. They had quite a variety too, which is what is most important in buffets. We actually went back twice, haha.

Lunch Buffet at Yamm, The Mira

Remember my binge-worthy birthday dinner buffet at Yamm, The Mira in April? Well in July, as per my recommendation and raves about the meal, my uncle happened to have a discount on their lunch buffet. He invited me and of course I had to go again! Sadly, the lunch buffet wasn't good. I suppose it's a cheaper price but they didn't have my all time favourites from April, namely the lobsters and the macarons. What a disappointment. I feel that the food quality has gone down as well... maybe my expectations were too high?

Father's Day Brunch Buffet at Al Molo Ristorante Italiano

Since my birthday brunch at Al Molo Ristorante Italiano was so good, I knew I had to go back one more time before the end of the year. But I mean, buffets are never cheap, even if they're brunch buffets, so it was supposed to be, y'know, a treat. The weekday br/lunch at Al Molo Ristorante Italiano is slightly lower in price than the weekend one, for obvious reasons, so to celebrate both Father's Day and passing my driving exam we had a feast!
